Region: Ireland
Beneficiary: University College Cork (UCC)
Donor: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under Ireland’s Climate Change Research Programme 2007–2013
The project carried out by UCC’s Energy Policy and Modelling Group a means of assessing the implications of alternative future energy system pathways for: (i) the Irish economy (technology choices, prices, output, etc.), (ii) Ireland’s energy mix and energy dependence, and (iii) the environment. The Irish TIMES model is used in this project to assess the implications of emerging technologies and mobilising alternative policy choices such as informing energy and climate policy to 2020, 2030 and 2050, develop better understanding of interactions between energy system and agriculture system, provide deeper insights into impacts of climate mitigation on macro-economy, improve representation of energy efficiency and interface with other modelling activity at national and EU level.
