The Water-Energy Nexus provides a conceptual framework to describe the complex and interrelated nature of an energy system. It allows to better understand the interactions and to work towards a comprehensive approach to the critical resources management.
Examples of results from TIMES MACRO Stand Alone (MSA) model that eestimates potential reduction in macro consumption (GDP Loss). Other results from the MSA model are energy service demand reductions, total final consumption, emissions…
The Sankey diagram shows scenario results from the Irish-TIMES model, the Ireland’s energy system model. It represents forecasted energy flows in a scenario with an 80% CO2 emissions reduction target for 2050Source: Deane J.P, Curtis J., Chiodi A, Gargiulo M., Rogan F., Dineen D., Glynn J., Fitz Gerald J. and Ó Gallachóir 2013 Low Carbon Energy Roadmap for Ireland. The figure shows an example of supply cost curve for the electricity generation sector under specific scenario prices assumptions.
The flowchart shows the conceptual model structure of Agri-TIMES, the Ireland’s agriculture module, and its interactions with the Irish TIMES energy systems model Source: Chiodi A.; Donnellan T., Breen J., Hanrahan K., Gargiulo M., and Ó Gallachóir B.P. 2015 Integrating agriculture and energy within an energy systems models to assess GHG emissions reduction - a Methodological approach. The flowchart shows the soft-link methodology that employs detailed simulation outputs from a dedicated power systems model (PLEXOS) to gain insights and understanding of the generation electricity plant portfolio results for the electricity sector from a separate energy systems model (TIMES). The figure shows an example of progress towards renewable energy targets for RES-E (renewable electricity), RES-T (renewable transport) and RES-H (renewable thermal uses).
The figure shows an example of evolution of car fleet carbon intensity under alternative scenario storylines (named ETS, NETS-25, E40t).
The figure shows an example of evolution of greenhouse gas emissions under two alternative scenario storylines: Business as Usual (BaU) and Climate Mitigation (Low GHG) scenarios.
A quantitative-oriented approach to measure the decoupling factors in energy system analysis.
The figure shows an illustrative cost supply curve for Ireland in 2030. Information Springer.com
Analysis is meant to explore the direct economic advantage of cooperation policies among the four Central Asian Caspian Countries: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan. The following cooperation policies in the area are directly modelled: - exploitation of Caspian oil and natural gas resources; - investment in the construction of new pipelines; - maintenance of free exchange in the energy sector; - creation of a joint CO2 emission permit system in the area.
